cara KGB, Kompresinya Gila!!

Selama ini saya hanya menggunakan beberapa kompresi dimana hasilnya kurang lebih hasilnya sama seperti ZIP, RAR dan TAR.GZ. Selebihnya ACE, 7ZIP dan sebagainya jarang saya gunakan karena belum terlalu umum. Tapi hari ini saya mendapatkan tools kompresi dengan hasil yang fantastik bernama KGB. Fantastik karena hasil ratio kompresinya benar-benar tidak pernah terbayangkan.

Namun kelemahan dari KGB adalah masalah waktu dan penggunaan sumber daya yang luar biasa besar. KGB membutuhkan waktu yang sangat lama (bahkan bisa berhari-hari) untuk proses kompresinya, begitu pula untuk waktu dekompresinya. Sumber daya yang dipergunakan pun cukup besar, dari processor hingga memmory. Jadi bagi mereka yang komputernya memiliki memory lebih kecil dari 512MB dan (apalagi) processor dengan kecepatan lebih rendah dari 1.5GB, saya rekomendasikan untuk tidak menggunakannya

Mungkin KGB akan semakin banyak dipergunakan seiring dengan kemajuan teknologi dunia komputer, baik kecepatan maupun besaran memory. Tetapi dengan kondisi komputer saat ini, rasanya KGB akan sulit diterima oleh pengguna komputer.

Master Windows Vista saja rumornya bisa dikompres menjadi (hanya) 2MB! Silakan lihat hasil googlingnya disini

Untuk saat ini KGB hanya cocok untuk menyimpan data-data yang mungkin nyaris tidak dipergunakan tetapi tetap ingin disimpan. Daripada menghabiskan space hardisk, ada baiknya untuk menyimpannya dalam bentuk kompresi KGB.
